my hood
Playing around with a new digital camera, this is the only one that came out clear. Bill bought it for himself but I am already using it more than he is. I have been having a crap week and its only Tuesday: parking ticket, favourite gloves stolen, insomnia, getting almost(!) locked in Richmond Park. My magazine design class is also uninspiring. I am going to have to make myself go all the rest of the week. One French girl constantly answers her mobile phone in class, another girl's project is a magazine "all about me". I see her working on a huge image of her face on the OS 9 something cruddy iMac in Quark 4 point something. I scan stock images from photo library books and play with Quark till its time to leave.
But, I did see Douglas Coupland tonight, and he was very amusing. I even waited in line to havet him to sign my book. I never do those kinds of things because I always feel embarrassed and don't know what to say. He just asked me a few questions and signed it Hey Shannon! (the book is called Hey Nostradamus!), after which someone stamped in red ink on top of it;"WARMEST PERSONAL REGARDS DOUGLASS COUPLAND". I felt bad that I couldn’t even give away all my other signed copies of his books when I moved, they all ended up in a crate for the goodwill (or that AIDS charity shop in SF that takes anything if you bring it around back way yourself). Tonight when he was talking about the book he was almost apologetic in explaining his tendency in wanting to see the larger picture, and to be a part of something big. Also for wanting to see the future. I think that’s one of the things I always liked about his writing, its big and encompassing and yet very small at the same time. His voice was wonderful, so much so I didn't mind him reading the last few pages of the book!
